Colourbar naming convention

DUG Insight comes with a set of colourbars for data display. Below is a complete list of all default colourbars, grouped by similar characteristics.

Banded

Colourbars with the prefix "Banded" have the following characteristics:

  • multiple bands of colour
  • strong contrasts
  • hard edges.

NegPos

Colourbars with the prefix "NegPos" are intended for zero-mean (symmetric) data with white or neutral central colour.

Rainbow

Colourbars with the prefix "Rainbow" are variations on rainbows (visible light spectra).

Colourbars with the prefix "Ramp" are smooth gradients without hard boundaries.

Colourbars with the prefix "Seismic" are seismic colourbars with inspiration.

Colourbars with the prefix "Thresh" have strong transitions at specific values.

Note: For those of you interested in minimising data distortion by using perceptually uniform colour-maps.  We've made some DUG-Insight colourbars inspired by Fabio Crameri's scientific colour-maps, which can be downloaded here.
