Plane Wave Dip Filter

Description This process computes an optimised, local dip filter (pass or reject) and applies it as a multiplicative mask to the transformed data in the frequency-wavenumber domain.

  1. In the Control Panel, open the Process tab.
  2. At the tab header, click the Add icon and select New Process.
  3. Scroll down and double-click on Plane Wave Dip Filter.
  4. Type a name for the process and click OK.

Configuring Plane Wave Dip Filter

  1. Volume: Select the input volume
  2. Half-window size for filter: The number of traces in half window. (The full filter size is 2N+1 traces)
  3. Start time (ms): Begin filtering from this time. Blank means begin at the start of the record.
  4. Start Ramp (ms): The ramp to be applied, if processing doesn't begin at the start of the record.The ramp, centred on the start time, is used when blending the processed and unprocessed data back together.
  5. End time (ms): End filtering at this time. Blank means end at the bottom of the record.
  6. End Ramp (ms): The ramp to be applied, if processing doesn't end at the bottom of the record.The ramp, centred on the end time, is used when blending the processed and unprocessed data back together.
  1. Apply up/down-dip filter: To selectively apply up- and/or down-dip filtering.
  2. Minimum/maximum up/down-dip (ms/trace): All values must be non-negative. Note that these values are ms/trace, not m/s velocity.
  3. Wrap with AGC: If selected, an AGC will be applied before the filter and reversed after.
  4. AGC clip Scalars: If this optional parameter is supplied, the wrap-around AGC's scalars are clipped to this value.
  5. AGC window length (ms): The length of the window for determining AGC. The AGC is applied before calculating the filter and removed after applying the filter.
  6. AGC window overlap %: The window overlap percentage for the AGC.
  7. AGC Lateral Smoothing Radius (traces): The horizontal radius of traces the AGC scalars are smoothed with.
  8. AGC Lateral Smoothing Trim %: The median-mean percentage used to discard outlying scalars.
  9. Output noise model: If selected, the data rejected by the filter is output.

Notes: The filter is calculated using all data in the trace. The start and end times control only the application of the filter to the data. The AGC is an "Arithmetic mean" AGC.
