Spectral Shaping

Description Adjust amplitudes in the frequency domain using frequency/gain pairs.

Requirements Seismic Volume

Works with 2D, Stacks, Gathers, Velocity

Spectral shaping applies amplitude scaling in the frequency domain according to the specified frequency/gain pairs. The scaling function is linearly interpolated between neighbouring points.

Choose frequency/gain pairs to achieve the desired spectral output. Spectra and output volumes are updated on the fly.

The Spectra Analysis window is a useful tool for comparing spectra before and after shaping.

Create spectral decomposition process
  1. In the Control Panel, open the Process tab.
  2. At the tab header, click the Add icon and select New Process.
  3. Double-click Spectral Shaping.
  4. Type a name for the process and click OK.

Spectral Shaping settings

Define spectral decomposition settings
  1. In the Volume search box, select the seismic volume to process.
  2. Apply inverse - applies a reversed version of the filter.
    • To undo or remove spectral shaping, use the "Apply inverse" setting with the original filter parameters.
  3. Fill the gain control section with:
    • Frequency: the frequency to which the gain is applied
    • Gain: the amplitude of the gain to be applied (in decibels)
  4. Click the blue + button to add a new Frequency.

The output volumes can be viewed in any of the following views:

  • IL/CL View
  • 3D View
  • Map View

Spectral Shaping Examples

Note: Spectral shaping can distort your data if applied incorrectly. Choose appropriate parameters for your data and always QC your results.
