Depth Errors

Description Analyse depth errors between well markers.
Module(s) Insight

The process analyses the depth errors between well markers and the corresponding depth-converted horizons in a layer model.

Create a Depth Errors process

  1. In the Control Panel, open the Process tab.
  2. Click the blue + icon, and select New Process.
  3. Scroll down and select Depth Errors > Add.
  4. Type a name for the process, and click OK.

Configuring Depth Errors

  1. Output survey: Select a 3D survey used to convert X/Y coordinates to inline/crossline values.
  2. Layer model: Select a layer model (see Creating a Windowing Model). The layer model defines a set of stratigraphic layers and interfaces between layers using horizons and well markers. This process will only calculate depth errors for horizons having a matching well marker. This process currently only supports layer models defined in TWT.
  3. Velocity: Select the velocity model to use to convert horizons to depth for comparison with the linked markers.
  4. Velocity Type: Select the velocity volume type.
  5. Velocity Units: Select the velocity volume units.
  6. Wells: Select the wells to include in the analysis.

Outputs

As a result of this process, the following outputs are generated:

  • Table: A dynamic table is created that provides information about each well/horizon intersection. Click Open Table viewer to view the table. Table views can be built on top of this data to show bubble plots of the misties.
  • Horizons: Dynamic horizons are created for each horizon in the layer model with an associated marker. These horizons display gridded, interpolated mistie maps across the velocity model extents.

Display mistie bubble plots

Use the Table Map view overlay to display the depth errors as bubble plots.

  1. In the Control Panel, click the Table tab.
  2. Click the blue icon, and select New Table Map view overlay.
  3. Type a name, and click OK.
  1. Table: Select the depth errors table.
  2. Column Mappings: Select the X and Y axes values from the drop-down menu.
  3. Fill:
    • Value: Select the Depth Errors column to be displayed as the overlay.
  4. Size:
    • Method: Select one of the following options:
      • Select Column for Radius: Select the Depth Errors column and specify a weightage for the overlay display.
  5. Click the Open View button to show the configured table overlays.

The bubble maps will be displayed on the Map View. You can dynamically modify the bubble map display in the Table tab. For more details, refer to Using Table to Overlay Views.
