Importing a GEOH5 Block Model
Insight can import block models from a GEOH5 file as 3D stack depth volumes. Each block model property is imported as a separate volume, and a 3D survey is automatically created for each block model based on the sequence configuration you define.
Basic settings
- In the Control Panel, select the Import menu.
- Click Volumes > GEOH5 Block Models.
- Click Select file and browse to the GEOH5 file you want to import from.
- At GEOH5 object type, select Block model.
- Review the list of block models available in the file under Block models to be imported. For each block model, the following information is shown:
- Name: the name of the block model.
- # Properties: the number of supported properties (float and referenced types).
- # U / V / Z Cells: number of cells along each axis.
- Azimuth: counter-clockwise rotation of the block model around the vertical axis.
- |x| / |y| / |z|: total cell length along each axis.
- Click Next to continue.
Note: Block models with no supported properties will not be imported.
Sequences
Configure the output extents for each block model. Use Previous block model and Next block model to navigate between block models.
Set the spacing (in project units) for each volume sequence to map the block model's irregular grid (U, V, Z) to Insight's regular sequences (IL, CL, Vertical):
- Inline: spacing between each inline section.
- Crossline: spacing between each crossline section.
- Vertical: spacing between each depth slice.
The Output extents section updates automatically as you adjust the spacing values.
Note: Warnings are shown if the output sequence is too large. The Next button is disabled until any invalid sequences are resolved.
Output settings
- Click the folder icon at Output directory name to select where the imported volumes will be saved. Alternatively, select a recently used directory from the dropdown list.
- At Class (data type), choose a data class to apply to all output volumes. This can be changed per volume after import.
- Optionally, add any relevant information in the Notes field.
- Click Next to begin the import. A confirmation message is displayed on success.
Note: Volumes are named using the convention BlockModelName_PropertyName. If volumes with the same name already exist in the output directory, you will be prompted to overwrite them.
